Description
Carbon monoxide is a hard-to-detect colourless and odourless gas. It is difficult to dissolve in water and is not irritating at room temperature. Carbon monoxide has a lower density than air but is formed during the process of combustion, together with a heavier carbon dioxide, which results in the flue gas having a higher total density than air, and accumulating in lower parts of rooms. There is not specified hazardous carbon monoxide concentration. The threat is associated with the time a human spends in an atmosphere with carbon monoxide. A concentration time of 200 ppm* and an exposure time of approx. 2-3 hours lead to headaches, fatigue, nausea and dizziness. While a concentration of 12800 ppm* and an exposure time up to 3 minutes results in immediate death!
